On May 14 2019, the European Court decided that companies should keep track of the working hours of their employees. The reason: a discussion between the Spanish trade union and Deutsche Bank, whose employees could not prove that they were working overtime. The European Court considered the issue and decided that time registration is mandatory.

Immediately a storm started on social media. Some believe that the decision is at odds with recent developments in workable and agile working. Others just understand the horrors of the negative connotation of such a system. Employees then feel that their employer does not trust them. It seems as if the decision is catapulting us back in time. To the nineteenth century, when the employer was constantly peeking over the employee's shoulder.

Useful tool
Time registration does not have to lead to a sense of control or distrust. First and foremost, it is a useful tool to keep track of how long all tasks in your company take. This gives employees insight into their days and teaches them how to handle something the next time. With time registration you can easily invoice the right amount to your customers. And you discover how much time a next - similar - project needs. A good system therefore has advantages.

Several ways
In the discussion almost everyone talks about a time clock. And how it no longer fits in modern times. That's right for many companies. But a time clock is not the only way to record the time worked. In ionBIZ you can choose from no fewer than three:

  1. Afterwards
Your employees enter their hours directly in the timesheets at a fixed time.
  2. Simultaneous
Your employees start and finish each task with a click on the start / stop button. They always know how long they have worked on a task.
  3. Automatically
Your employees keep track of their duties and agreements in their digital agenda. ionBIZ automatically converts this into their timesheet. That way they don't have to enter anything manually. And they do not lose valuable time.

Whichever method you choose, you know all the hours worked per day, week or month. The overview tells you everything about the time spent in your company.

Employees and customers
You use the time registration data for your invoicing and your payroll administration. You know exactly how much time a project took. And therefore how you invoice your customers correctly. Was more time needed than usual? Then you will also gain insight into the overtime hours. It is best to make clear agreements with your employees on this. You simply approve them in ionBIZ. No more discussions or doubts!
